Loyalty card questions, answered.
Everything merchants ask before and after they launch: how customers join, what staff do at the counter, messages, pricing and data. There's help here for loyalty card holders too.
The basics
What is Sharaftona Loyalty?
A digital loyalty card platform for local businesses. You design a branded card with stamps, points or cashback, and your customers keep it in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, the wallet apps already on their phones. Your staff add rewards from a phone, and you run the program and send free messages from one dashboard.
See how it works or watch the 4-minute demo.
What kinds of businesses is it for?
Any business with customers who come back: coffee shops, restaurants, bakeries, salons, barber shops, gyms, car washes, retail stores, pet shops, clinics and more. See loyalty ideas by industry.
Do my customers need to download an app?
No. The card lives in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, which are already on their phones. Customers scan your QR code, fill in a short form and add the card, with nothing to install. Read more about Apple Wallet and Google Wallet loyalty cards.
How long does it take to get started?
Most businesses are live in about 20 minutes, with no developers and no special hardware. You create your card, put the QR code up in your store, and try it once as a customer and once as your staff. The dashboard walks you through each step.
Can I design a card before I sign up?
Yes. Open the card designer and build your whole card, with its rewards, colors and logo, without an account. An AI assistant can help you set rewards that suit your prices. When you sign up, the card you designed is saved, so nothing is lost.
Does it work in Arabic?
Yes. The dashboard, the customer sign-up page and the staff scanner all work in Arabic and English, with full right-to-left layout. You choose each card's sign-up language, and your staff can use the scanner in a different language from yours.
Which countries do you work in?
Businesses across the Middle East use Sharaftona Loyalty, and the UAE and Saudi Arabia are our largest markets. See where we work. Plans are billed in US dollars, and prices can be shown in your local currency for convenience.
How is this better than paper punch cards or our own app?
Paper cards get lost and tell you nothing about your customers, and a custom app is expensive to build while most customers never install it. A wallet card needs no download, can't be left at home and lets you message customers for free. See the side-by-side comparison.
Cards & rewards
Which rewards can I offer?
Three types, each on its own card:
- Stamps: a stamp per visit or purchase and a reward when the card is full, like "buy 9, get the 10th free". More on stamp cards.
- Points (Cash back): customers earn points on what they spend and use them as a discount. More on cashback.
- Points (Reward): customers earn points and exchange them for rewards from your list. More on points.
Not sure which fits? Compare the three.
What happens when a customer fills a stamp card?
The full card turns into an earned reward and the count starts again on its own. Extra stamps carry over to the next round, and earned rewards add up until your staff redeem them.
Can one stamp card offer several gifts?
Yes. With milestone gifts, one stamp card can offer 2 to 5 gifts at different stamp counts, for example a snack at 5 stamps and a drink at 10. Customers spend their stamps on the gift they want.
Can I reward my best customers with levels?
Yes, on points cards. Each level has a threshold based on visits or total spend, and higher levels can earn points faster. Customers move up automatically, and on iPhone the card can change to each level's color.
Do stamps or points expire?
Only if you want them to. Each card can keep stamps or points forever or let them expire after a period you choose.
Can I change my card after customers have it?
Yes. Customers keep their balances, new rules apply from the moment you save, and the card updates in their wallets on its own. Only the card type (stamps or points) is fixed once the card is created.
Can I run more than one card?
Yes, for example a stamp card for coffee and a points card for your regulars. How many cards can be active at once depends on your plan.
How much of the card can I customize?
The card carries your brand: your logo, colors, card name, reward pictures and the text customers see. You choose what shows on the front of the card, the sign-up page uses your colors too, and you see a live preview while you design.
Your customers
How do customers join?
They scan your card's QR code, fill in a short form and add the card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet with a tap. It takes about 30 seconds, and from then on their stamps or points show on the card.
Where does the QR code go?
Wherever customers wait or pay. You can print a ready-made poster, show the code on a tablet or screen at the counter, or download the QR image for your own designs. Each card has one QR code, so every branch uses the same one.
What information do customers give?
By default their name, phone number, date of birth and gender, and you can add questions of your own. Birthdays power automatic birthday messages, and age and gender show up in your dashboard charts.
What if a customer changes phone or deletes the card?
Nothing is lost, because balances are stored with us, not on the phone. On a new phone the card comes back through the customer's Apple or Google account, and if they deleted it, they scan your QR code again to get the same card back.
What if my customers aren't comfortable with technology?
Joining is one scan and a short form, and the card sits in an app they already have. Even customers who never open the card can collect: your staff can find them by phone number.
Can customers invite their friends?
Yes. Turn on referrals for a card, and when a new customer names who invited them, both get the reward you choose.
Can I bring my members over from another loyalty system?
Yes. We can import your existing members and their balances from a spreadsheet, so a customer with 6 stamps still has 6 on your new card. Importing is switched on per account, so just ask us.
Staff & branches
How do staff add stamps or points?
Staff sign in to the scanner with the login you create for them, in the free Sharaftona Business app for iPhone and Android or in any phone's browser. They scan the customer's card, or look the customer up by phone number, then add stamps or points or redeem a reward with a tap. No special hardware is needed.
Does scanning need an internet connection?
Yes. The app and the browser scanner both work online, and if the connection drops, scanning pauses until it's back.
What if a staff member makes a mistake?
Staff can edit or undo a transaction from the scanner within 24 hours, and you can do it from your dashboard at any time, for example after a refund. A redeemed reward can't be undone.
Can customers or staff cheat the system?
Customers can't add anything themselves: their QR code only identifies them, and only your staff's logins can add or redeem. You can also cap the stamps or amount allowed in one transaction, get an email when a transaction goes over a limit you set, and require an invoice number. Every transaction records who made it.
Does it work across several branches?
Yes. Add each branch, link each staff login to its branch, and keep one card and one QR code for the whole business. Every transaction records its branch and staff member, so you can compare branches. How many branches and staff logins you get depends on your plan.
Messages & marketing
Can I send messages to my customers? Do they cost extra?
Yes, and they're free. Messages appear on your customers' lock screens through the loyalty card, with no per-message fees. Send to everyone or to a group of customers, now or, on plans that include scheduling, at a time you set. Each plan includes a weekly number of campaigns, shown on the pricing page.
Who receives my messages?
Customers who added your card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, because the card itself carries the message. We don't send SMS, email or WhatsApp messages to your customers, and a customer who removes the card stops receiving messages.
Can I message only some of my customers?
Yes. Customers are tagged automatically every day, for example VIP, new, at risk and dormant, and you can add tags of your own. Pick a tag as the audience when you send a message.
Can customers get a message on their birthday?
Yes. Write a birthday message once and each customer receives it on the morning of their birthday, as long as they gave their date of birth and have the card in their wallet.
Can new customers get a welcome message?
Yes. Add a welcome message to your card and it's sent once to each customer, right after they add the card to their wallet.
Can the card remind customers when they're nearby?
On iPhone, yes. Add your store addresses and a short message, and Apple Wallet shows the card on the lock screen when a customer is near the store. Google Wallet doesn't offer this, so Android customers are reached with regular messages.
Can a message also give customers stamps or points?
Yes. Add a gift to a message, like "2 stamps on us for Eid", and each customer gets it on their card together with the notification, once per customer.
What does the AI do?
It helps in three places: an assistant that builds your card with you, a coach that sets reward rates you can afford, and a growth coach that suggests campaigns from your customer data and writes the message in English or Arabic. Nothing is sent automatically; you review it and send it yourself.
Can I collect Google reviews?
Yes. Put a link to your Google review page, or any other website, on the back of your card, and customers tap it from their wallet. Customers can also rate their visit from 1 to 5 privately, and you see the ratings in your dashboard.
Pricing & trial
How much does it cost?
Current plans and prices are on our pricing page. You pay one flat subscription, monthly or yearly (yearly works out cheaper), with no per-message, per-scan or per-customer fees and no setup fee.
Is there a free trial?
Yes: 14 days free, and you don't need a credit card to start. You can also earn extra free days; the pricing page explains the current offer. Nothing is charged when the trial ends unless you choose a plan.
What happens when the trial ends?
Choose a plan to keep going. Your cards, customers and data are kept, but the dashboard and staff scanning pause until you subscribe, and everything carries on as soon as you do.
What happens if I go over my plan's customer limit?
New customers can still join through your QR code, but until you upgrade, your staff can't add or redeem and your dashboard is locked. We email you when you reach 90% of your limit and again when you reach it.
Can I upgrade, downgrade or cancel?
Upgrades are instant: you pay only the prorated difference and the higher limits unlock right away. To move to a lower plan, cancel first; you keep your plan until the end of the period you've paid for, then choose the lower one. There's no contract or minimum term, and unused time isn't refunded.
Which currency am I billed in?
US dollars. Prices can be shown in your local currency for convenience, but the charge is in USD and your bank applies its own exchange rate.
Data & integrations
Who owns the customer data?
You do. Your customer and transaction data belongs to you, and you can export it to Excel from your dashboard at any time.
Is the data secure?
All connections are encrypted with SSL/TLS, and data is kept on secure cloud infrastructure. Our privacy policy explains how data is handled.
Can I connect my POS, website or other systems?
Yes, through our REST API and webhooks, available on the Business plan. Developers can create customers, add stamps and points, and react to events as they happen. See the developer documentation.
For card holders
How do I add a loyalty card to my phone?
Scan the store's QR code, fill in the short form, then tap Add to Apple Wallet or Add to Google Wallet. The card then shows your stamps or points and updates by itself.
My stamps or points look wrong. Who can help?
The business that gave you the card runs its loyalty program and manages your balance, so please ask their staff or manager. We provide the technology behind the card and can't change balances or rewards.
I deleted the card or changed my phone. Is my balance gone?
No. Your balance is saved with the business, not on your phone. Scan the store's QR code again to get the same card back; on a new phone, the card returns when you sign in with your Apple or Google account.
My card hasn't updated after my visit.
Cards update on their own, usually within a couple of minutes while your phone is online, and Google Wallet can take a little longer than Apple Wallet. If it still looks wrong later, ask the store.
How do I stop a card's notifications?
On iPhone you can turn off notifications for that card in Apple Wallet. On any phone, removing the card from your wallet stops them, and it doesn't erase your balance: scan the store's QR code whenever you want the card back.
Who can see my details?
The business whose card you joined runs the program and holds your details, and we process them on its behalf. For questions about your data, contact that business; our privacy policy has the details.
